Overview
The City of Mableton values the privacy of visitors using its Guest Wi-Fi service. This notice explains information that may be collected and used while a visitor connects to or uses the service.
Information That May Be Collected
To operate, secure, and troubleshoot Guest Wi-Fi, the City or its authorized service providers may collect technical and connection information such as:
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type
- Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Device network identifier, including MAC address where available
- Date, time, and duration of a connection
- Wireless access point or City facility used
- Basic network performance and security event information
How Information May Be Used
Information may be used to maintain reliable network operations, troubleshoot technical issues, detect and respond to cybersecurity threats, investigate misuse, enforce the Acceptable Use Policy, and comply with lawful requests or applicable records requirements.
Monitoring and Security Logging
Network activity may be logged and analyzed to protect City systems and the public network. The City does not guarantee that communications over Guest Wi-Fi are private or secure.
Personal Information
The Guest Wi-Fi connection itself does not require visitors to create an account or intentionally provide personal information unless a separate City service requests it. Information voluntarily submitted through a City website or application is governed by the applicable City privacy statement and service requirements.
Cookies and City Websites
City websites accessed through Guest Wi-Fi may use cookies and collect browser-level information as described in the City’s website Privacy Policy. The Guest Wi-Fi captive portal does not use browser cookies to create a personal profile.
Disclosure
Information may be disclosed when required by law, in response to a lawful subpoena or court order, to investigate a security incident or misuse, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of the City, its employees, visitors, or the public.
Retention
Connection and security logs may be retained for operational, cybersecurity, legal, regulatory, and records-management purposes in accordance with approved City requirements.
